Backstory
Born in the opulent halls of the Siannodel family, one of the most influential and wealthy houses in the city of Arannis, Quarien's early life was defined by privilege and beauty. His father, Lord Varran Siannodel, a cunning diplomat and wealthy landowner, doted on him as the heir to the family fortune. Quarien's mother, Lady Aelira, was a gentle soul known for her enchanting melodies and unmatched skill with the harp. Their mansion overlooked the verdant forests of Elarion, a vast wilderness populated by ancient oaks and whispering winds, but the lives of the common folk who lived outside the walls seemed like an afterthought.
Despite this sheltered life, Quarien had a rebellious streak, constantly sneaking away from his tutors and the suffocating expectations of nobility to explore the world beyond his family's estate. The forests and the humble villages at their edges fascinated him. It was here that he saw the suffering of the common people: the toll of corruption from dragons and their kinfolk, who were more concerned with their own wealth and power than the welfare of the citizens.
At a young age, Quarien met a band of outcasts—former soldiers, thieves, and rebels—who lived on the fringes of society. They were known as the Silver Leaves, a ragtag group of vigilantes who made their home deep within the Elarion woods. Led by an old elf named Aegon, the Silver Leaves raided the corrupt draconic caravans that plundered the countryside, stealing from the rich and returning to the poor. They were legends in the making, and Quarien was drawn to their cause.
Quarien began to spend more time with the Silver Leaves, learning their trade: stealth, agility, and the art of subterfuge. He honed his skills in archery, knife throwing, and the subtle art of deception. Though he had the blood of noble elves in his veins, Quarien's heart was stirred by the plight of the common folk, and he found that the thrill of outwitting the greedy elite was far more satisfying than the stiff traditions of his family.
As the years passed, Quarien became a symbol of resistance. He earned the title of Sylvan Shadow, a master of shadows who could strike without a sound and vanish before anyone knew he was there. With his quick wit and unparalleled agility, he became a symbol of hope to the oppressed.
Robin Hood-esque Exploits
As Quarien's renown grew, so did his defiance of the aristocratic system. He began to target those who abused their power: the draconic overlords, corrupt daragoon slavers, and the greedy landowners and corrupt officials that have become their middle managers. Much like Robin Hood, Quarien would steal from the rich and powerful and give to those who had suffered at their hands. He stole gold, jewels, and treasures from the elite and returned them to the villages where the people were struggling. Farmers, widows, and children—each had stories of Quarien's quiet visits in the night, where food would appear on doorsteps or bags of coin left by the hearth.
However, his raids were not without cost. His name became a symbol of rebellion, but it also drew the wrath of powerful enemies, including his own family. His father, Lord Varran, made it his personal mission to bring his son back to the fold of the Siannodel family, seeing Quarien's actions as a betrayal. When Quarien was framed for the murder of a nobleman, it became clear that his ties to the aristocracy that was supported by the dragons were severed forever. He was now an outlaw, wanted by his own people.
The Legacy of the Sylvan Shadow
Though he became an outlaw, Quarien's heart remained true to the cause. Over time, his legend only grew. To the common folk, he was a hero—a symbol of defiance against an unjust system. To the nobles and the military, he was a dangerous criminal and a thorn in their side. But Quarien never faltered. He continued to strike from the shadows, thwarting the plots of the powerful, exposing the corruption of the dragons and their kind, and rescuing those who had been wronged.
Through his adventures, Quarien eventually amassed a following of loyal allies: a ragtag band of former criminals, disgruntled soldiers, and displaced villagers who had rallied to his banner. They took to the forests, hills, and wilds surrounding Arannis, waging a campaign of mischief and vengeance against the elite.
Despite the danger, Quarien never lost sight of his ideals. He still believes in the concept of justice, but one that doesn’t rely on laws written by the draconic overlords. He seeks to dismantle a system that only serves the few and replace it with one built on the principles of fairness and equality.
Personality and Motivations
Quarien is a dexterous and quick-witted individual. His humor can be biting, and he has an uncanny ability to escape tight situations. However, beneath his roguish exterior lies a deep well of empathy for the downtrodden. He despises the dragons and the elite landowners that serve them as plagues upon his homeland and believes in the power of the common people to rise up against their oppressors.
His motives are simple: to right the wrongs he sees in the world, to restore balance, and to give voice to those who have none. He is fiercely loyal to his friends and allies, and though he may seem aloof at times, he is always watching and listening, ever prepared to act when the need arises.
Quarien's Appearance
Quarien is a striking figure, standing at 6 feet tall with the slender, lithe build typical of high elves. His silver hair is often tied back in a loose braid, and his emerald-green eyes gleam with mischief and purpose. He wears a dark green cloak that blends with the shadows, and his leather armor is adorned with intricate elven designs, both practical and ornamental. A bow, a set of finely crafted daggers, and a slender rapier are his primary weapons, each one an heirloom passed down from his family, though he now uses them against those who would abuse their power.
